Gumigem Review

This week I have been lucky enough to be asked to do a review of a most excellent product called "Gumigem". This is a little more about the product:-

About GUMIGEM™

Have you found that since having a baby wearing a necklace isn't ideal? Fed up with your jewellery being tugged and chewed on? Scared that baby maybe chewing on something that isn't for young gums and teeth?

These necklaces have been designed by a mother who experienced the very same problems when having her own baby. And while it's not a major issue, why should we compromise on these accessories if we don't have to. Especially when they provide more than just a solution to wearing a necklace again.

GUMIGEM™ is the original UK teething necklace aimed to provide mummy with a stylish accessory that baby can chomp on to his heart's content. With two stylish designs, and additional options coming soon, you'll find a full range of colours to choose from, and a GUMIGEM™ that is sure to suit you in our online shop. These teething necklaces are made from a similar material to that of most baby teethers. Our silicone meets FDA standards and is BPA, PVC, Lead, Latex and Phthalate free. For more information on our commitment to safety view our FAQs page.  at                        www.guumigem.co.uk

GUMIGEM™can withstand high temperatures, be easily sterilised or placed in the dishwasher. On a long cord, there is plenty of reach for baby, and for extra comfort and safety, each necklace has a breakaway clasp. A thoughtful gift for new mummies, adorable aunties and gorgeous grannies! GUMIGEM™ is the only mummy necklace made in the UK which accommodates both the need for mums to be stylish and babies to teethe on for relief of symptoms. It's a traditional teether, for the modern mum. Many nursing necklaces are made from hard beads which many dentists feel is not ideal for emerging teeth due to the potential risk of wear and damage. GUMIGEM™ is made from baby safe silicone which is what 'conventional' teethers are made with thus allowing baby to chomp on a suitable material.

The first thing you notice is these pendants are really nice to look at! I would willing wear mine out anywhere and I don't even have a baby ! I think it is a wonderful product and I really wish I had been lucky enough to have them when my children were small. They were always chewing my clothes and I was scared to wear a necklace because they may have hurt themselves.
I also asked a young friend with a baby to try it for me and she was delighted and wanted details to rush and buy one. She thought they were practical but had style which I think many young mums today want and need.
The web site is excellent and there are lots of different colours and also replacement cord which I thought was brilliant.
Many stars also own this product and I think it is a must have for anyone from mummy to grandma, go buy one today!

Emma and flashback friday

Today it is flashback friday at Cafe Bebe and a good excuse to find pictures to use.
For this flashback I picked a picture of my niece Emma who has a wonderful blog called Mama Syders.
Her father is 10yrs older than me so I was always the baby. When they had Emma I was only 12 and so excited not to be the baby anymore. For the second I saw her I totally fell in love and wanted to spend as much time with her as I could. If my sister in law went to do anything, I took on the task of watching her with very serious care and attention. Later her brothers came along the first being Sam when I was 14 and I think I spent more time at their house than mine ! The other boys Tom, Tony, Ben and Dan were all loved as much and I am thankful that I do keep in touch. I don't know if they know how much I love them but if they read this I do ! Oh and Emma is in the wonderful glasses and sam is fishing, the other little girl is a neighbour.
Happy weekend my friends!

Well its another Monday and the weekend is gone so fast. Had a wonderful day on Sunday with great friends Lynne and George, a fab lunch and great conversation. We also looked over photo's and talked about our memories of where we were and what we were doing at the time of the picture. Taking photographs is such a wonderful thing to do, its so much fun to look back and laugh or just remember.
One  blog which I really enjoy is

What shall we play today mum!

I love old photo's as they can bring back so many memories. My children are adults now and those fun simple days seem long past. When I found this picture of matthew and Natalie they seemed so happy and expectant. I do remember that one of our most fun days was most likely our cheapest also. We lived near a huge park which we crossed each day to get to school. One winter the school rang and said to come collect them as a huge snow storm was forcast. I didnt drive so I piled on the coats and set off! We got home safe before the storm but then the "what shall we do " cry went up.
So I covered the kitchen floor in paper and then got paint poured onto plates and said " ok let see what we can find" and set them searching. We rounded up pasta shapes, potatoes, bottle tops, bits of plastic in fact anything they could find. Then we laid out paper and tried them all out making pictures with the paint and sticking things on with glue.
It hardly cost a thing and we got messy but it was so much fun. You can throw money at days out and toys but I also found the most simple things could be the most fun.
Sadly they are a little too old these days, but I'm looking forward one day to have a
"what can we find" day with my grandchildren.

snap shot in time!

I was going through some papers today and I came across this black and white photo, taken in 1959 of myself age one! I think my mother was going to enter me in some baby contest and she had in fact made the dress from paper. I was not a very happy child when I was little and my aunt used to often say that I had the face of an angel, but miserable as sin lol. My mother was very talented and used to make the most wonderful clothes, and paper dresses were a theme for fancy dress. Many years later she made them for my niece Emma and my daughter Natalie.
I also think it is great that in the picture you can see a lady behind me, wearing clothes very much of that time. Pictures can have such a wonderful link to the past in memories and the time. I wish I could say I was this cute now, but sadly at age 52 not so..... I am much happier though !

Magpie Monday!

Over at the fab blog Me and my shadow its magpie monday. Now my item for today is a slight cheat but I hope you will forgive me! Like my wonderful neice over at Mama syder, I also love old fabric. A few years ago I used to work for a very nice lady who had some wonderful vintage things. One day she asked me if I would drop of some things to the charity shop on my way home. I got all the way home a had forgotten I had them and the bag had broken. So I took out everything to re bag, and to be honest most of it was totally boring!. However, deep inside the bag there was a little gem! It was 4 beautiful place mats or little table toppers and some napkins. They were a little yellow but were so nice I nearly died! I rang and asked her if she minded I have them and make a donations to the shop, and she said help yourself.
I washed and ironed them and sadly my picture does not show them in great detail, but they really are wonderful. I think they must be very old but I love them. On special times they come out like christmas and they always wash up like new. So please forgive the wee cheat and I hope you enjoy my find anyway!

My firstborn

Today its flashback Friday at Cafe Bebe and it made me think about which picture I would use. When you get to my age ( 52 but don't tell anyone!) you have many flashback times. So I really had to think what to use. I decided on a photo of my son Matthew. Both my children did T.V work when they were younger, and as part of that had to have pictures taken. This was Matthew's and he was about 11 at the time. I really remember getting them back and thinking how handsome he was and being so proud. This year he will be turning 30 and I have no idea where all those years went. I am still totally proud of him and all he has achieved, he has turned out a wonderful man. When I had Matthew is was a wonder as I thought after 2yrs of trying we were never going to have a baby, so when he arrived it completed my dream of being a mum.  Both my children are the light of my life and a joy, I am so lucky to have them everyday.

Dig those Crazy eyes!

I am sure lots of you who blog will think " what shall I write about today" and I am no exception to that rule. I sat down to think of something but ended up looking through some photo's and thats when I came across this little beauty!

Its my future son in law Rob and my daughter Natalie at a recent Try dive at a local scuba club. I thought it was soooooo funny I had to share with you all. My daughter loves the water and as a child she used to wait for it to rain so she could run outside to stand in it! We get plenty of rain in the UK so she was very happy most of the time lol. Then we got her a huge paddling pool and she would spend hours in the thing, happy chatting to herself and making up stories. I remember when I was young we had a paddling pool at the local park, and my mother would be happy to let me go off with friends to visit in the summer. Sadly in this day and age mothers can't be so free with their children and its sad that it is that way.
In later years Natalie and myself have had a battle with weight issues which means going to the pool is something we never really do, so it was really nice that she could do this.
She loved every minuet with rob and when I saw this picture I really laughed ! Hope you enjoy it also and spend time having fun everyday.

Back to the 80's

Well those of you who kindly read my blog will remember the story of the search for 80's clothes. My daughter in law Karen was turning 30 and was having an 80's theme party. I had found a dress and jacket in a charity shop and thought it could be just the thing. I added extra large shoulder pads, made from an old bra and some other padding. I added some shot glasses around the neck, a little 80's hair spray and away we went.

Kevin was having fun really lol . My daughter in law made such an effort to have loads of 80's things including toys and games and all kinds of things. Kevin did wonderful food and my daughter Natalie sang. It was a great time but I must say hard work for all and very warm! This is a picture of my son Matthew (with the super blond hair) Karen the birthday girl and Chris and Darren some friends. I think you will agree they looked great.

The story of the wedding invitations using the Kandi Kane applicator

Those who read this blog will know that my daughter Natalie is getting married to Rob in September this year. We have had a busy time the last 2yrs with weddings as my son Matthew married Karen last year, so its been a very hectic couple of years.
Natalie asked if I would make her invitations and I did not think what a huge thing it would be. However, some what down the line with nearly 300 under my belt I really do now! So construction was down to me and printing down to Dad!
They are very simple in Ivory card, which open out to be tri folded with details in the middle and lower pocket for the RSVP.
We wanted to have a diamond on the centre of the outside bow and at first I used stick on ones, that did not stick. Then I found the Kandi Kane applicator online and thought I would give it a go.

1. Heat up your Kandi Kane
I found that an old wooden chopping board was great, as the first time a used a table place setting and it melted !! The instructions do not tell you how hot this applicator gets so PLEASE be so careful. I burnt my finger first time I used it. I would not let children under 12 use it at all and even older ones I would watch as it could be very dangerous.

2.Get your bag of hot fix gems
I got mine from Ebay and they were really cheap. They have to be hot fix gems and they have glue on the back. Can I also say the glue on the stone also gets very hot!

3.Lay out your gems and start picking up!
You have to then lay out your gems on the board gem face up, I like to lay out a few to save time. Then when your Kandi Kane its hot (it take seconds) you can pick up your stones. You have all different head sizes to fit all sorts of gems. They have a little dip on top and this is were your stones fits. Hold the applicator like a pen. Then tap in down on the gem, it should pick up the stone right away. Once it has tip the applicator up and watch the glue melt.

4.  Lets gem!
When the glue has melted you are ready to fix the gem to your chosen surface. The gem should stay in the holder and you then just gently tap it onto the area you want to stick it to and by magic it drops out. The stone is very hot still so watch your fingers. If you do drop the stone you can pick it up and put it back and re heat if you are quick, but please use tweezers as they are hot. If the gem gets stuck use a pin to get it out again.

5. Finished item!
Then you are all done and I think you will agree they look good. Have a go but don't make 300 lol

Hope you enjoyed my quick run through using the kandi kane. They are fun and you can buy gems in all sort of sizes and colours. They fix to anything and stay and stay. I went mad at first and stuck them on anything that did not move. By the way I bought mine from Ebay but I think you can get them all over the place, or something similar to it.
