Social Media Friendships

Social media friendships..... does it happen? Is it possible to form a friendship with someone you have never met, or are likely too.As it is Monday and I am linking up with the oliversmadhouse again I think the answer is Yes! all my life I have had penfriends my first being. Carla at the age of 10. She lives in Canada and I can still remember how excited I was when her letter dropped onto the door mat. Even at 54 I still have contact with her which I think is pretty special. Or Janie, Darian and April.

In the last few years social media such as facebook and twitter has got bigger and bigger. I am not saying that this is always good but used with care and safely it can be fun. I try to be careful and not put to much of a really personal nature on, but I do enjoy it.

My favourite is twitter. This is because I get to chat to people all over the world not just on my list. People I would never have had a chance to chat to if I were not on twitter. People like Joe in Jersey and Richard in Canada. Brigitte , Tina and Karen to name but a few.

Recently I have had the joy to "met" such a sweet young lady called Emma. We have really clicked and I enjoy such fun chats with her. She has a lovely company called www.knitone-purlone.co.uk which is full of fab knitting products. I am really excited as she is sending me some things she has made so I can tell you all about it soon. If you like wool and knitting you have to go and look at her products , all the colours its a fun web site

Emma and her mum

I am old enough to be her mum but I don't think that matters at all as we seem to have so much in common!

In the last few years I have learnt how to use facebook, twitter and how to write a blog. It to prove that even in my mid 50's its possible to learn new IT skills. I have " met " so many lovely people, and most I will never meet in person. This does not make those friendships any less important,

So thanks to all my new and old friends and long may it continue. I think for me its yay to social media friendships.

  1. I've also made many new friends because of social media, some I shall never meet, others I've already met and become real-life friends, it's great to have friends all over the world, and I don't think it's any less of a friendship just because you dont actually meet.
I love the sound of the website you mentioned, I shall definitely have a look, thanks
    Joy x x x

  7. I agree: social media connects us and makes our distances between us non-existent. It's one of the great innovations I've grown to love and use often. Thank you for sharing!

  10. It's so nice when you can make good friends from all walks of life, and get on well with them. Blogging's definitely brought me some friends, plus lots of others I think I'd get on with really well in real life.
