Macmillan Coffee morning and Make it Coats

As you know I am very lucky to be an Ambassador for Coats who make a wonderful range of fabrics, cottons and wools which I get to create with. Recently a great quilt caught my eye and I thought it would be perfect for a charity event I planned to donate to.

It was using fabric from the Free Spirit range called Bright Heart Voile by Amy Butler. Amy said in her own words

"Bright Heart" inspiration comes from a fusion of elements both internal and external, born from rich feeling of delight in celebrating what brings means, purpose and beauty to my world. What a beautiful way to explain how she creates these lovely fabrics. Such a delight to work with as they are super soft, they made up into a warm , cosy and soft quilt idea for these Autumn nights.
The Charity I spoke of was Macmillan  , who provide cancer nurses and also lots more such as support and advice. I find it a charity close to my heart as the Macmillan nurses offered such help and support to my parents. When my mother was so ill with cancer they came every day to help her and my dad and I am sure she went on to live just a little longer from their care and love.

My father in law has a home in a sheltered building for older folk and being one of the fitter people he loves to help out and arrange things. I also make cakes for them to raffle off and the money raised helps to take them out for day trips when they can.  So this time of year every year Macmillan have coffee mornings all over the country. It can be in your home or office anywhere how ever small. So the care home had a coffee morning and my wonderful Bright Heart quilt was perfect to make for it.
It was a bit rushed but I got it made in super speed and posted off an woohoo it arrived just in time. I had already made them a green cake to raffle so they were all set.

The Winner! Even if she does not look it she was over the moon lol

I am pleased to say between the 2 items they raised £200 which is a wonderful amount. In fact they raised more than the local food store lol.
So please have a try at making the Bright Heart quilt. the pattern is free and very simple and easy to follow. If you would like any advice or help please feel free to contact me  and I will do my best. Here is the link the the quilt on the Make it Coats web site.

Thank you so much Make it coats, FreeSpirit and Amy Butler for the pattern and fabric it was fun!

Please note I was not paid for this blog post only receiving a sample of the fabric.

  1. Hello there! Firstly, thank you for your very kind comment on my blog- it was lovely to hear from a fellow Creative Mondayer and I love your quilt idea for the Macmilan- it's great to use your sources and use for a good purpose. We had a Macmaillan coffee morning at school which I think was very successful!
