What makes you happy?

What makes you Happy? That is something they were asking on a T.V show recently, here in the U.K.
The show I have been watching is called "Living with the Amish"and follows a group of young people from the UK, who go to the U.S.A to live with Amish families.

Different communities take them in and show them their life and what it means to them. My first thought was that it was really odd to not be part of modern life. A great deal of their ways seem totally out with the rest of the world today. However, as I watched I really began to see how they would hold onto their values. The main focus of the recently show was "What makes you Happy?" For me this is where the Amish get it right. Their simple life style means that there is less importance on material things.

I think we are all guilty of having too much " Stuff" and maybe they have it right but living the simple life.
It did make me think about What makes me happy and I know that is an easy thing to talk about.
For me its my children and my husband my little family. They bring me so much joy everyday and I am so lucky to have them. Sadly I don't have a huge family as both my parents have passed away so my little family is all the more important.

At this time of year we tend to think of those who are not around and of the people we don't see but think of all the time. I also think how lucky I am to have my family as many don't and find this time of year so hard. So for me what makes me happy is my children and husband and being lucky enough to live in a safe place, and be warm and  protected. I am also grateful for my friends and my wonderful internet friends, who brighten my life.

So I really wish you are a very Happy Christmas and hope you all get to be with the people you love and care for. I would love to hear what makes you happy .

  1. Last summer our family went to the mountains in Colorado - way at the top of this mountain we saw an Amish family - I secretly took a picture (Amish do not like pictures taken because of the sin of vanity) any way - I was amazed how simple they were dressed and how they seemed to not pay attention to all those around them staring at them...
What makes me happy? My kids...
    Merry Christmas

I think you are absolutely right. I am so lucky that I have such a big family. I don't know what I would do with out them. We are very close knit and I have ten nieces and nephews that practically live with me, lol. Many people believe writing is my main passion, but martial arts is what I am most passionate about. And the teachings of my style are all about finding peace and happiness. I think you could count the amount of stuff I own on one hand, lol. I used to go away for weeks on end to train (for matches) somewhere private and cut off from the world, away from distractions and it is such a peaceful life.

  6. Simon you sound like your life is wonderful for you now. How lucky to have such a large close family, I really envy you that.
I think we all do own too much "stuff" and we should enjoy the small things in life. Christmas blessing to you and your family xx

I am always delighted when people take time to leave me a comment...thanks so much
