Arla Best of Both (BOB) milk review

Like many at this time of year I am trying to lose weight. Its not easy but I am working at it for sure. I always use skimmed milk as its best for fat and calories, but I have to say its not always the best in taste. It can be a bit watery and thin and not great in coffee at all. So when I was asked to sample a new product I was excited. I found Arla's Best of Both or BOB milk in the chill area with ease. I got it home and tasted it neat so to speak and was very pleased by what I found. It was not thin and weak like skimmed but was more like a semi skimmed , even a full milk for me. I would not drink skimmed milk on its own but I would drink BOB as it tasted great. My husband is very fussy and it took me ages to get him onto skimmed. This he loved straight away!

Here are a few facts for you.

NEW MILK ON THE BLOCK DELIVERS FIRST “BEST OF BOTH” PROMISE:

Introducing Yellow-Top Skimmed Milk That Tastes As Good As Semi-Skimmed

Arla, the UK’s largest dairy company, has unveiled a game-changing concept in the milk aisle: the first ever skimmed milk that tastes as good as semi-skimmed.

Arla Best of Both (BOB®) is the country’s first milk with a yellow lid and a 100% unique proposition. The innovative new skimmed milk is fat free, pasteurised, filtered and enriched with protein to deliver a taste and texture that is as good as semi-skimmed. In addition, with Arla’s unique PurFiltreTM process, it also lasts longer in the fridge.

How did Arla do it? We’re glad you asked. The simple yet brilliant process took three years to develop and sees naturally occurring milk protein carefully added back to skimmed milk to boost its flavour and texture. Free from artificial ingredients and additives, it’s this extra protein which makes Arla BOB taste so good.

Try BOB on its own for an extra tasty glass of milk, with tea for added texture to your favourite cuppa or poured over muesli for a delicious morning start.  BOB is available in Tesco, Asda, Ocado and Nisa stores nationwide from 11th January in 2-litre (rsp: £1.50) and 1-litre formats (rsp: £1

I will be switching over to Best of Both as it really does taste great.

You can find out lots of information at the Arla web site

please note I was not paid for this review only receiving  a sample of the product

  1. I really love this milk. I have to be on a low fat diet because I have very high cholesterol. My only worry is that not many people buy it and I am afraid it will go out of production. In Asda I said to the cashier "have you tried this milk" her answer was that it was the first time she had seen it. Maybe it should be marketed better. Perhaps using cholesterol as an advertising ploy. Not to say it lowers cholesterol but that it reduces animal fat intake. I say well done arla, please keep making B.O.B. sincerely Madeleine Roberts.

  2. Fortunately we have a Waitrose in town so it's not difficult to get. I tell you what - it makes amazingly creamy, smooth custard! Better than with ordinary milk.
