Social Media Friendships

Social media friendships..... does it happen? Is it possible to form a friendship with someone you have never met, or are likely too.As it is Monday and I am linking up with the oliversmadhouse again I think the answer is Yes! all my life I have had penfriends my first being. Carla at the age of 10. She lives in Canada and I can still remember how excited I was when her letter dropped onto the door mat. Even at 54 I still have contact with her which I think is pretty special. Or Janie, Darian and April.

In the last few years social media such as facebook and twitter has got bigger and bigger. I am not saying that this is always good but used with care and safely it can be fun. I try to be careful and not put to much of a really personal nature on, but I do enjoy it.

My favourite is twitter. This is because I get to chat to people all over the world not just on my list. People I would never have had a chance to chat to if I were not on twitter. People like Joe in Jersey and Richard in Canada. Brigitte , Tina and Karen to name but a few.

Recently I have had the joy to "met" such a sweet young lady called Emma. We have really clicked and I enjoy such fun chats with her. She has a lovely company called www.knitone-purlone.co.uk which is full of fab knitting products. I am really excited as she is sending me some things she has made so I can tell you all about it soon. If you like wool and knitting you have to go and look at her products , all the colours its a fun web site

Emma and her mum

I am old enough to be her mum but I don't think that matters at all as we seem to have so much in common!

In the last few years I have learnt how to use facebook, twitter and how to write a blog. It to prove that even in my mid 50's its possible to learn new IT skills. I have " met " so many lovely people, and most I will never meet in person. This does not make those friendships any less important,

So thanks to all my new and old friends and long may it continue. I think for me its yay to social media friendships.

  1. Jill thank you so much! I completely agree with what you have said, twitter has enabled me to meet lots of lovely people like you and without it I wouldn't be able to talk to them.

You may be old enough to be my mum but I love our chats and we have so much in common. Swapping craft projects have been brill and I'm so excited to see the cushion you have made me!

Your blogs are so thoughtful and I find them really interesting, I'll be asking you things when mine is set up!

Once again thank you for your kind words, I can't wait for many more chats to come and I will send u some more surprises in the post xxx

  4. What a lovely post! How awesome that you've stayed in contact for so long with your penpals! That is so neat. I agree, you're never too old to learn new things--or to be on social media sites. :) And you're never too old for friends! I like pen-palling too. I can't say I've had a pal as long as you have, but I have made some amazing friends online. It's strange how some friends that are only online friends or pen-pals can end up being closer with you than the people you see and communicate with on a daily basis. Well, that's been my experience anyways. I have a pen-pal I write too as well. Similar to yours since she's in her sixties and me, I'm 22. She's a prisoner though... I had found her on a website and something just really stood out about her. Strange. I don't usually take up friendships with random prisoners. HA HA. But I've actually made such a nice friendship with her and I get so excited just to see a letter in the mail from her. :) I guess no matter how popular online talking becomes, there's still nothing quite like the written word.

PS. Thanks for sharing about her yarn site. I love to craft, especially with bright colors so I'll definitely check it out.
