Dinner suit for hire!

Over at the wonderful White Lily Green its handmade Thurday. As someone who loves craft its hard to pick one item I have made. My patchwork is a passion but I do love paper craft and scrapbooking, when I have time.
Today I picked a wedding favour box I made to show my daughter who is getting married. It is made in the shape of a mans Tux, and you can open at the top to put in sweets or a gift, it also has a matching  bride box.
She went with another design in the end, but I thought I would share with you as its cute!

Life size

I have just came across a fab blog called Metal mummy. The theme over there this week is chick flicks!
It made me think it over and to be honest it's hard to pick one . I do love a good chick flick! So the one a picked on to use was "life-size "staring Tyra Banks, the American super model.
It's the story of a life size doll that by magic comes to life.
It's a very sweet film full of colour and silly fun.
I watched it with a special friend who shared my love of the silly film. At the end of the film she gets to stay alive and you get to do a sing along.
We laughed ourselves silly and it was a real feel good movie.
So come on you know you want too!

Tales of an over the hill blogger!

When my neice said I should start a blog, I thought she was mad!
What would I write about?
What would I mention?
How the heck do I do it?

So like a kind patient parent she sat me down and said "lets begin"! With her help and a fab logo from my son I felt like a start had been made. However, as blank pages screamed at me I'm affraid I buckled under the pressure. My poor little blog was left in the dark for no one to see! Then dear neice said "Aunty you have a nice looking blog, you must write", all said with a smile. So here we are and my friends I have found many things to write about in the last couple of months. I learnt how to put on pictures and how to make my blog look better. I learnt how to tweet ( well thats another story a work in progress) and how to take part with other blog's and comment. I also learnt about "buttons" and "blog politeness" and all the other million things you have to learn.
Im getting there, I love to learn and I hope my blog is interesting so some, I hope it is being read?
Are you out there friends?
Please visit my niece Emma over at The Syder's as she is a wonderful writer and her blog is full of fun and ideas.

This week Im grateful for.... life in the uk

Today I came accross a fab blog called // And then there were four and I great idea to think about what you are grateful for. It made me think about how with our busy lives that we never really stop to think about this. So saying that here goes!

1. My washing machine ... I know its totally self centred but i use it so much I could not imagine not being able to plonk stuff in, slam the door and do something else while it washes!

2. My postman ..... he always has a smile not matter what the weather. He is polite and helpful and always tries to do an excellent job. How many people doing this type of work do we forget!

3. My sewing machine ....... Im making 8 yes i said 8 bridesmaid dresses and how on earth i would do that without my machine i dont know! Sewing is a huge part of my life so without it i would be so sad.

4. My family...... I have a wonderful husband of 32 yrs and 2 fantatic children who i could not live without. I also have some nice friends all over the world , and also great family in Australia.
Im grateful for my life!

Listography On Time travel

I just found the fab blog Kate takes 5 and this week her Listography is "Places I'd like to time travel to (past and future)! At first I thought this would be easy but I thought wrong!
1.Back in time to the early 1800 or late 1700. Reason being I am doing my family tree and have hit a brick wall. It would be so much fun to meet my relatives and see how they lived, and where.

2. My second pick would be back to 1966. My parents loved camping and we normally spend hours in a tent! However, once a year my dad's love of hot weather and sun would take over. They would save and save and once a year we jetted off to Spain. I can still see my dad laid out frying to death in the sun!

3. My number 3 would be a time when my son was small. He was a totally sweet baby who always was smiling and happy. He is 30 this year so time as flown past, and he has grown into a wonderful young man. I think like most parents love for my children has grown and grown.
As another note I would also like to be this slim again!!!

4. And last I have to say I would like to still be  in the today or year ! I have a wonderful family of Kevin my husband, and my two children Matthew and Natalie. They also have 2 super partners of Karen and Rob, so all in all I am very lucky. There is much to look forward to this year so thanks I will stay where I am!

Open Wide!

Over at Cafe Bebe its flashback friday. As I am 53!! this year I have lots of flashback times so its fairly hard to pick one. I settled on this one as it really made me smile. We must have been on holiday and it was around 1960. My mum would have made my swimsuit as she did with most of my clothes. I have no idea what I was saying or doing but I look happy. Wish I was that cute now !!

Handmade Thursday cuddle quilt

Over at the super White Lily Green its yet another handmade Thursday to have fun with.
My quilts are like me soft and cuddly! well thats the way I like to think of them. Some do not take long to make but can be so nice to give to someone you care for. I give away more quilts than I keep as I really enjoy doing that. Some take weeks to make but each one is made with care and love.

Later life education

Over at sticky fingers the gallery subject was Education .I was fairly intelligent at school but I hated being there as I was bullied.
People were jealous because I was clever so they got at me for being fat!
I never made a success of school because of this, and always felt I should have done more.
So in my late 30's I took a leap and went to university to do a degree.
It wasn't easy with a child of 10 and one of 15 but I stuck it out.

I got my BA(hons) on my 40th birthday, and it goes to prove
You can teach an old dog new trick!

Make me slimmer by morning!

My weight loss journey is long and hard.Just when it feel like I'm winning it all stops. It's so unfair when I really try hard, but that's life. I've been dragging my feet this last month but now I need to start fresh. So wish me luck and watch this space.

Penfriends

Since I was around 10yrs old I have had penfriends, or more so these days e friends. The excitement I felt getting a letter in the post, from some far away place still is with me today. My first was Carla from Canada and we were both 10 yrs old. We are still in contact even now at age 52 which I think is pretty amazing.
When I was 15 I had a penpal called Susan and one day we met up, over the years we lost touch and our lives moved on, so can you imagine how wonderful it was to hear from her again. The picture in this post is of me and Susan as teenagers.
Now days I still have many wonderful friends all over the place, and even if I never meet them I still think of them as friends.
So thanks Susan, Darian, April, Janie, Sandi,Carla and Jane I'm glad to know you.

Red Nose Day!

Well its nearly Red Nose Day here in the UK. Every year a vast amount is raised for various Charity's and all over the country people do fun things to do good work in the future.
I was saving the below picture for the day, but as I have to attend a conference I am not going to be around. So I am posting today for you to enjoy.
So a very happy Red Nose Day and the best of luck to all those doing events.

Georgie's Quilt

Over at the fab White Lily Green its Handmade Thursday and this is my contribution this week!
It was made by me for a friends daughter and I really was pleased with it in the end. At first it was hard as she only wanted pinks and reds, but I think you will agree it turned out pretty nice. I love to sew!

Tree's across the field

This is the view accross the fields by my house. I thought the tree framed the church really nice. My daughter is getting married there in september, so its nice to have this picture to show people.

More tea?

Today I had the chance to go out with a friend for tea. Now for those of you with a life beyond the house, wouldn't think this was fun.
Since health problems have stopped me working, I find it hard to get out. Add to the fact I live in a semi rural area, and you can see my excitement over tea.
Life can be lonely at times so when a kind pal offers a wee trip out, you jump at it. So a very nice morning drinking tea and chatting what more can you ask on a Monday!

Craft jumble fun!

Today it's bright and sunny, what a good day to go to a craft jumble. I've never been before but really enjoyed poking around in boxes and bags , looking for little gems.
Not that I really need anything but that's never stopped me before.
In the end I got toy patterns for 50p and a huge bag of wool for my daughter for £3!
My first craft jumble but not my last!

Flashback Friday ...Camping

Over at Cafe Bebe their Flashback friday really got me thinking. My parents Grace and Tom have long passed away. On of my mum's passion was for camping! Every summer out would come our tent, and with the car packed to the roof off we would set. In this picture which I aged nine took, they look so happy. We were in Cornwall, which is along with Scotland the next passion of my mum. When I think of the past this is how I would like to see them, so much fun. I miss them.....

Handmade Thursday!

Today I can accross the blog White Lily Green and a call to what you had homemade. My list is endless as I am totally in love with craft of all kinds. I was brought up on sewing and now I really enjoy patchwork as my first love, but with a second in scrapbooking and card making. Sadly I have not always took pictures of my work, and in future I plan to correct that! So keep handmaking its fun!

Relax

Today at Sticky fingers the idea was to come up with a picture that describes a word.
My cats are my babies and the word relax can only be shown by a cat! No body relaxes like a cat, they stretch out and are in a world of their own.
So go and Relax and live it up as a cat!

I wish I wish

Well still  more dresses today, I can see by the time I have finished I will be totally sick of dressmaking!
I really want to get on with some patchwork or just fun sewing, but my sentence is to finish the DRESSES
before I can. Ah well tea break over the warden blew the whistle and its back to work!

Tuesday 8 March 2011

One down.... 7 to go!

The brass band is playing and the party begins .....
Well not quite but for me that is how it feels. I have finished one of the famous bridesmaid dresses today.
It's been hard work and very stressful! I am panicked that they will look home made, or second best. I wish money had been no problem, and off to dress shop we would have gone.
So 7 more to go then I can have my life back!

Monday ... washing day!

As a child I always remember Monday as washing day.
My mum would buzz around the house and grab anything not nailed down to wash.
She had at one point an old fashioned boiler and would stand with these wooden grabbers, fishing around the tub! It was then my job to catch the washing as she rolled it through the wooden rollers to get rid of the water. I loved to grab it as it came through, and I must say it did a good job.
Today we don't tend to have a Wash day, but on Monday I always think of my mum and her red face as she worked over that tub!

Family old and new

This weekend has been great! It started with a great show with daughter in law Karen, Lynne, barb and Katie. We laughed and had fun both with each other and at the fab cast of calendar girls.
Then on Sunday we had a flying visit from my son Matthew and
Karen and their sweet little dog Millie. It's always so nice to see them all.
Then my future son in law rob's parents Anne and Ian came to dinner. It has been so nice to get to know my children's partners families.
Just because our children love their chosen person, it does not mean the families will.
I'm so thankful that we do! Karen's parents George and Lynne
are great. We have had some good times and I hope many more to come.
Rob's parents Anne and Ian are also very nice and I hope over time , like Lynne and George will become good friends as time moves on.

Saturday 5 March 2011

What's happening?

What are you doing this weekend ? I am lucky I am being released from "the bridesmaid dresses" for a few hours. I'm going with friends to see the show calendar girls, and with an all star cast it should be fun. As we get older it's often hard to see ones self as attractive , so i think the cast are very brave to bare all.
Hope whatever your doing you have fun.

Friday 4 March 2011

What are you proud of?

I met up with friends today and one of the sujects we talked about, was name something you are
Proud of.
It made me think and my list is
1. My children
Matthew and Natalie are the light of my life. Everything they do makes me proud, they make so happy and I love to see them as much as possible.

2. My marriage
My husband and I have been married for nearly 32 yrs. Don't get me wrong it's not always smooth sailing and I nearly killed him many times but I still love him.

3. My Education
I went back into education in my late 30th's. I went to university and got my degree at 40. It shows your never to old to learn.

Thursday 3 March 2011

What would you like to do today!

The question of the day "what would you like to do today" made me start thinking.
I  could go down the road of spending the day with love one's who are not here anymore, now that would be special.
Or on a more practical level, just being able to relax with a cup of tea ( now you know i LOVE tea ) and a good book. No cleaning, no cooking and no bridesmaid dress sewing. Ah well I can dream !
I would love to know all your "what would you like to do today" things as well, so get thinking!

simple pleasure's

Over at Sticky Fingers the theme this week was simple pleasures. For me its my sewing and a nice cuppa.
I've been sewing all my life and making things for myself and others brings me total pleasure. Passing on my love to my daughter and seeing my niece Emma also sewing is a total joy. So tea and sewing my all time
Simple Pleasure.
